Where do I know you from?
On view now. An online solo exhibition of work by artist Rafael Concepcion.
On View Friday January 29th - February 27th Rafael Concepción's "Where Do I Know You From?" becomes a visual investigation; a narrative of pieced-together of moments that would otherwise escape a traveler’s eye. In this body of work, Rafael takes us with him on his persistent journey of trying to get to know this island, Puerto Rico, and the disconcerting unfamiliarity he feels in a foreign place that he holds such emotional and familial ties to.
Last year, participants from all over the world collaborated to create one VERY long drawing using the theme "Under the Sea!" We're so excited to share that this online exhibition is LIVE now on our website!

Thursday, February 4 Noon Artist Sonya Clark uses the Confederate Battle Flag to examine how the symbols of white supremacy and slavery haunt us. Join a brief presentation about the concept anchoring the Wadsworth's recent acquisition of Sonya Clark's Blackened and Bleached (2015) to consider how Clark challenges the resonant power of the Confederate flag and how her interventions complicate history, conservation, and preservation. Sunday, February 7 10-11am Learn about important moments that have been enshrined or underrepresented in the history of art through specific works of art in the collections of the Wadsworth with Janna Israel, Adult and Academic Programs Manager. NEW YEAR - NEW DANCE
Originally scheduled to premiere in October 2020 but paused due to COVID, Penelope’s Odyssey will now be shared through a series of access points. A limited number of tickets will be available for an in-person fundraising performance at Hartford Stage on February 12, 2021 and then premiered virtually on February 20, 2021. Audiences will experience a first glimpse of this piece in process including impressive costume and set design, as well as stunning dancers that have fought to work in their art form despite the many hurdles of the past year. |

Timothy Frerichs has spent the past 25 years using his artwork to address the impact humans have on the environment. His current work addresses human activity as the dominant influence on the environmental problems plaguing Lake Erie and the Great Lakes system. It is important to Frerichs to create his work as sustainably as possible. He sources materials locally and often finds creative ways to use the objects he has picked up along the coastline of Lake Erie. Frerichs is a Professor of Art in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media at SUNY Fredonia.

Joy Bush's photography exhibition "Abstractions: Shadows & Runes" is now on view at the Gallery at Still River Editions through March 26th, 2021. The exhibition is viewable online anytime, or in person 8:30 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday “Each image is a meditation, a time to pay attention to things that speak to me as well as to make a connection with my surroundings. Inevitably, something that might easily have gone unnoticed shows itself, becomes important, and rearranges the familiar.”We welcome in-person visitors to our gallery and ask that only 1-2 members from the same household visit at once. It supports emerging African American poets through a summer retreat, regional workshops, a first-book prize, annual anthologies, and events and readings across the country. Silvermine Galleries is honored to have Michelle Y. Loh be the juror/curator of this exhibit. She is a New York based art advisor, gallery director, and curator. In 2017, Loh established Boers-Li Gallery, New York space on East 81st Street.  The Voice of Art is inviting emerging and mid-career artists to our new entry call for “Two/Three-Person Exhibition 2021” at the Virtual Gallery and select Venues. TVOA seeks artists whose works that share personal meaning or interpretation of any ideas or themes as a body of artwork, bringing their discoveries into light through their artistic sensibilities. Selected artists will be invited to a Two or Three-Person show for a six-week duration. Up to Ten 2-D artwork in ANY medium, style, and subject matter will be considered by TVOA Jury. An International Call for Works of Contemporary Drawing In honor of the original spirit of the founding ideals of Manifest, the gallery launched DRAWN almost a decade ago as an annual exhibition marking the organization's 10th season. DRAWN seeks to survey and present the broad scope of drawing being made today. DRAWN calls for artists to submit works of drawing in any media relevant to the practice (including non-traditional approaches), any style, and any genre (fine art, illustration, design, conceptual, realism, etc.). This exhibit has no expectation for type or style of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental. The only criteria is that works must qualify as drawing, including that which tests the boundaries of the discipline. Submission deadline: February 10, 2021

METAL
An International Call for Works Made of or about Metal Historically magical, metal holds its place in human history alongside such formative catalysts of civilization as the taming of the dog and horse, agriculture, electricity, and even DNA. But, as we know, not all metal is created or perceived equally. Metal is yet another generally ubiquitous category of materials, so pervasive as to be taken for granted on a daily basis. Manifest is interested in how artists elevate, observe, depict, and characterize metal in the art of today. With this exhibit Manifest invites artists to share their works that are either representations of, feature prominently, or are made primarily of metal. Submission deadline: February 12, 2021
