The Long Fight for Woman Suffrage

April 18, 2020 - July 3, 2021

One hundred years ago, women secured the right to vote with the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The struggle for “woman suffrage” lasted more than 70 years and was fought by women and men on both sides of the contest. This exhibit features original photographs, documents, and artifacts representing Connecticut individuals and organizations who argued, reasoned, marched, and took action for or against women’s right to vote.

Arts Center East:

We are accepting submissions for our next juried multimedia exhibit, An Image is Worth a Thousand Words

 Submission Deadline: Wednesday, May 12

Jury Results: Sunday, May 16

 Exhibit Dates: May 27–June 12

Gallery Hours: Thursday–Saturday, 1:00–5:00pm

www.artscentereast.org/1000-words

We all know the old saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

The adage was first said by Henrik Ibsen, and was a little different than what we know now: “a thousand words leave not the same deep impression as does a single deed.” Over the years, through translations and appropriations, the exact wording has changed, but the sentiment remains the same: complex or nuanced feelings and thoughts can sometimes best be summed up in a single image.

How do you use art to express what is too complex for words alone?

With your submission, artists are encouraged to include a description to accompany your artwork to be displayed in the gallery and online.

FINAL CALL!
March 26, 2021

(annual gallery exhibit - small works open call)

MAGNITUDE SEVEN
17th Annual International Call for Small Works - Open Call

Every year Manifest produces an exhibit of little works of art from around the world. Each iteration of the exhibit brings in hundreds of powerful yet diminutive works for our jury to consider. Inevitably this results in a gallery full of diverse, compelling, and exquisite little gems. Manifest’s patrons eagerly await the Magnitude Seven event each year. This annual project is one of the most varied exhibits in our season. So we are always excited to offer this call to artists to submit works no larger than seven inches in any dimension (any proportion). Standard presentation devices like pedestals, mats, and frames that are not considered part of the work of art are not limited by the 7" criteria.

Submission deadline: March 26, 2021
For complete details and to apply online visit:
