“Vapors”
Jennifer Day

"Vapors” is a continuation of my 25- year focus on the black and white idiom, which entails  black paint applied to a hard gessoed surface. Recurring themes which, despite my best attempts to challenge them, seem to resurface. So I let them.

In applying paint then taking it away, incessantly, I’m trying to make physical what I see, which is elusive. Honestly, this seems at times totally impossible. Liquids, mist and light evaporate,  condense and reappear. Everything tries to go away but the frame responds and reminds me that though everything, really everything, is ephemeral, good old reliable geometry can reign it in…for a moment’s containment anyway.

“StreetWise”
Juried Photo Exhibition

PICTURED ABOVE: DARRELL MATSUMOTO: “THE FEMININE,” COLOR PHOTO, 32” X 30”, 2020

This exhibition of photography by New England artists highights images that touch on street photography in all its forms: people, places, and intriguing juxtapositions. Original interpretations examine what it means to highlight public spaces and use the camera as an exploratory tool.

All genres are included, from documentary to experimental, from gelatin silver to digital color and beyond.

SALLY Exhibition at Artpoetica -Carole Kunstadt, PRESSING ON Installation of 16 sad irons.jpg

Pressing On: Homage to Hannah More, installation, antique sad irons, fiber, paper by Carole Kundstadt

SALLY, a collaborative project, brings together artists, writers, historians, and the local community intrigued by the narratives of women, like Sally Hemings, whose destinies are inextricably interwoven
with those they knew, and whose lives have often been erased or forgotten.
At this critical juncture, with women’s autonomy once again under siege, another meaning of sally
seems particularly relevant: a sudden charge out of a besieged place. A primary theme in SALLY is
how artists, through their methodologies, confront myriad issues of agency, and use collaboration to
undercut the status quo, and construct lives of integrity and purpose.

Our 110th Annual Exhibition is finally live on the CAFA website! The show will be up until the end of the day on August 14th, 2021 after which it will become archived.

Please be sure to spread the word and share your fellow artists' work with others. If you post any pieces on social media, remember to tag or mention us with our handle @ctacademyart.

Enjoy the show! We hope to see you all in person at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in 2022 for our 111th Annual Exhibition.
