ADAM VIENS: “THE END-OF-HISTORY ILLUSION” In Pegasus Gallery and The Niche Now - March 1 Adam Viens’ mixed media works take on themes of perception, time, psychology, science, and philosophy. His abstract compositions are assembled of found and repurposed material combinations that retain hints of past use and personal identity. Individual material forms and surfaces are recognizable in sections, but become obscured and recontextualized within the whole of larger compositions. In Viens’ work, it is only through viewer reception, response, and personal reflection that meaning is discovered. Viens is a Middletown based artist and studied art at Manchester Community College. He has a decade-long regional exhibition record, and his work is held in numerous private collections. The Mural as Muse: An Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop with Poet Ed Lent aka Ezra Lovecraft Saturday, March 2, 2024 (snow date March 3) 9am–12pm In this half-day writing workshop that explores the intersection of art and poetry, participants will be introduced to the ekphrastic poetry process and five-story indoor mural at the American Mural Project (AMP) that portrays workers on a grand scale. In Greek, ekphrasis means “description.” Ekphrastic writing describes a work of visual art, using the artwork as a source for personal and imaginative interpretation. In AMP’s gallery, workshop participants will have the opportunity to take in the mural from three viewing levels, reflect, and respond to the artwork through creative writing.
Workshop facilitator Ed Lent will share examples of poems created in response to art, showing the breadth and depth of the genre, and offer inspiration and guidance. The workshop will culminate with an opportunity to exchange thoughts, questions, and any poems that may be ready. Participants may also extend their time at AMP, exploring the mural exhibit on their own or taking a guided tour. Participants Will Have the Chance to Showcase Their Poetry in The Mural as Muse Exhibit. Participants are invited to submit revised poems by March 16 for potential inclusion in The Mural as Muse exhibit at AMP for National Poetry Month, April 2024. This is an intergenerational workshop for the community: adults and students in grades 6 and above. Pre-registration is required. Spaces limited.
Adults $20 Students (grade 6 – college) $12 Register Now Your non-refundable registration fee includes admission to AMP for the day.
Location: American Mural Project at 90 Whiting Street, Winsted, CT. Doors open at 8:30am, workshop begins promptly at 9am. Questions: mimi@americanmuralproject.org www.americanmuralproject.org

The Year of Music at I-Park opens with a unique benefit recital by renowned pianist Olga Kirpicheva. This event, a benefit to raise funds to acquire a grand piano for I-Park’s composers-in-residence, was conceived by Connecticut based composer, and I-Park fellow, Polina Nazaykinskaya. The program titled Dialogues is based on Kirpicheva’s recent recording of the same name – a tribute to Sergei Rachmaninov through the interpretation of emblematic works by the Russian composer and contemporary creations by Polina Nazaykinskaya. Polina recalls her 2018 residency at I-Park with great fondness and sees this recital as an opportunity to give back. In turn, we thank her and Olga for their warm generosity. We’d also like to acknowledge the in-kind support of Falcetti Pianos. |
|
Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres at the post recital reception. Select silent auction items will be available and patrons will have the opportunity to Buy a Piano Key. All purchasers of a $500 key will be acknowledged on a plaque in our Common Area (sorry, all the G sharps and the Tristan Chord are spoken for). |
