The Gallery on the Green presents a retrospective of prints, paintings, and drawings by Connecticut artist A. Walter Kendra, who has devoted more than 60 years to creating work that speaks to his passion for architecture, landscape, and nature, especially nature. The exhibition displays the evolution of his studio practice over the years, revealing startling differences as well as continuity as Kendra transforms his direct observations of the world around him into abstractions. “All of my work is abstracted from nature, and there’s an echo of representation in them, yet they transcend that. I always like my work to transcend, not mimic color or form.”

Whether you’re singing along with the Schuyler sisters or only had a brief introduction to the Revolutionary War back in school, you won’t want to miss these authentic artifacts related to Alexander Hamilton and characters from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical. Who’s your favorite Hamilton hero? Who’s your favorite villain? And when it comes to history, who decides who’s a villain or hero?

Sonia Plumb Dance Company Announces "The Pearl!" |
|
SPDC is thrilled to announce our newest project and first performance of 2022 – The Pearl. Through a poetic interweaving of projected photography and choreography, dancers share the struggles they each endure between their conditioned selves and their true nature.
“The Pearl” is designed to provoke poignant, honest dialogue by intimately confronting the destructive nature of commercially propagated norms. Seven dancers embodying diversity in cultures, genres, ages and ethnicities dance with their digitally projected selves in an intimate setting. Audiences may sit on the periphery or in the center of the action. Seating is capped at 30 per performance.
Performances will be held May 11-14. A preview performance will be held on May 10. All performances will be held at our new space at 960 Main Street, Hartford, CT (the former GFOX building in downtown Hartford.) Tickets on sale April 8. |

West Hartford Art League Fine Arts Festival - Deadline June 1
The West Hartford Art League Art Festival will be held (rain or shine) on the grounds of our 87 year old non-profit arts organization at 37 Buena Vista Road in West Hartford. Our mission “to educate and inspire” is reflected in our monthly exhibits of local and regional artists in our two galleries, our year round roster of art classes for all ages and abilities, our summer art camp, and the public art program we founded in 2006.
The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, administered by Creative Capital, supports emerging and established writers who write about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000, the grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences—from short reviews for magazines and newspapers and in-depth scholarly studies, to art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods and experiments with literary styles.
