ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION

Numbers are used to quantify, rank, prioritize, calculate, and measure. Depending on their context, numbers can be holy, encouraging, devastating, superficial, or so commonplace they are barely noticed. Many works that feature repetition or are part of a series inherently reference numbers. Open to all media, The Nth Degree is a juried exhibition that encourages artists to submit work that uses numbers or mathematics. These influences can be conveyed boldly, subtly, contextually, literally, or simply as inspiration.

Meet the Artist 6-9 pm

My work stems from the familiar, the intimate, and the remembered. I start with my own family photo albums. Working from these source images is a way of celebrating and understanding who I am and where I came from. My family history has deeply influenced my artistic process,
as I am a first generation Polish-American.
I recreate and reinterpret these scenes and narratives of my Polish-American family within a new context.  My art is characterized by recurring themes of identity, time, and memory.

  'Figuratively' Paintings by Karen Bonanno

" I am most interested in the figure, whether it be in an interior, exterior or an undefined atmospheric space. Through expressive mark making and color choice, the figure is formed and solidified in its environment. Not so much capturing a likeness of a particular person but rather a gesture and mood that contributes to the narrative of the painting. My main influences are the artists of the Bay Area Figurative movement including David Park, Richard Deibenkorn and Elmer Bischoff as well as Cezanne, Bonnard and Matisse." - Karen Bonanno
