Sonia Plumb Dance Company Presents

Water Wars on September 21 and 22 and the University of St. Joseph

West Harford CT (June 12, 2012) – After thrilling audiences for a decade throughout the Northeast, the Sonia Plumb Dance Company is back after a 10-year hiatus to present a preview of the Company’s newest performance, Water Wars, at the University of St. Joseph, West Hartford, Ct. on September 21 and 22, 2012 at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $20 for the general public to $5 for students in advance or $25 and $10 the week of.

Water Wars explores our very human relationship to water both spiritually and physically,” said Sonia Plumb, artistic director and choreographer. “When a family is displaced from their home as the result of drought or a flood, the upheaval is intense, raw and devastating. The Company’s dancers in Water Wars will take us on a physical journey through these emotionally-charged issues.”

Unveiling of The Charter Oak |  Thursday, 9/20 |  5:30 pm

Please join us tomorrow at 215 Pearl Street in Hartford for the official unveling of The Charter Oak water mural, the first of Hartford’s City Canvas Public Art Projects. Created by Connecticut artist Adam Niklewicz, the water-activated mural depicts the enduring symbol of Connecticut’s revolutionary spirit. The iconic image, which appears and disappears from view, is inspired by Charles De Wolf Brownell’s painting “The Charter Oak,” 1857, currently on view just off of Gray Court.

Walking Around a Tree
is a companion piece to the water mural. The projection, which animates a young tree that revolves 360 degrees, will be displayed at night on the exterior of the AT&T building adjacent to the synagogue. The Walking Around a Tree projection debuts the evening of Saturday, September 22, 2012.
This project was a grand collaboration between the Wadsworth Atheneum, Real Art Ways, the City of Hartford, the Greater Hartford Arts Council and the State of Connecticut.
