“Proyecto Concepción” are 15 artists went to art school together in Havana Cuba in the 1980’s,  re-uniting for an exhibition here at AvS Gallery.
Nine of the artists will be attending the opening. We hope you can join us for this exciting event!

Proyecto Concepción
The objective of this exhibition is to present an encounter of artists through a dialogue between their artwork.  The participating artists were students and teachers during the 80’s at The Vocational School of Art “Paulita Concepción”, located in Havana, Cuba.
In 2009, Carlos Mateu had the idea of facilitating a reunion between old classmates and teachers.  Thanks to persistence, chance, and technology, a year later it was possible to connect with 16 people.  What at the beginning was only a wistful encounter progressively became the exhibition project we presently see.  Artists chose to present the work that best summarized their latest creative incursions.
The exhibit is made of artwork of different subject matter, belonging to different conceptual traditions, and made using different techniques.  The unity of the exhibit is established by the counterbalance between works that express a diversity of artistic sensibilities and trajectories in life.   In other words, the exhibit is a kind of mosaic where the singular and the diverse gather, which facilitates the delight of all kinds of audiences.
