Carole P. Kunstadt’s ‘Between The Lines’ Exhibition

Thursday, September 11, 2014 6:00 pm

Opening Reception Sept. 11, 6 to 8 pm| Artist Talk Oct. 1 at Noon
Carole P. Kunstadt, a graduate of Hartford Art School,  deconstructs paper and text of old books.
She was inspired by the purchase of an 1844 parish Psalmody. She slices the pages into strips, then sews and weaves them together layering fine tissue paper and leaves of gold.  the new images reference spirituality, and the temporal quality and vulnerability of life.

Grand Piano oil on canvas 55 X 72" 2012
This Saturday, September 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. is a reception for Tony Carvalho in the Gilbert Gallery in the Main Dining Hall at 60 Main Street, Farmington, CT 06032. The exhibit of Carvalho's paintings continues through October 3.

Tony was born in Portugal and came to the Unites States at the age of five where he has lived since, though he has often returned to the place of his early youth. Some of the paintings in the exhibition are inspired by the village of his origin. Other paintings are done directly from life in Connecticut (scenes in the studio, still lives, and portraits) and some of the paintings are poetic inventions configured on a large scale. Tony earned his MFA from Western Connecticut State University in 2013. He studied with, among others, Margaret Grimes, Marjorie Portnow, and Riley Brewster. He has a BA from WCSU in both English Literature and Painting. He has recently worked with Stanley Lewis at Chatauqua Institute, School of Art in Chatauqua, NY. Tony is the recipient of the W.B. Connor Trust Scholarship, the Antonio Alberetti Award in Painting, and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He has shown his drawings at the Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury, CT. This is his first one-person show of paintings.
The Gilbert Gallery is open from 8 to 3:30 M-F and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (During weekend hours, please ring the bell at the door to the Main Building). For questions or further information please call 860 418-9557.
