The main floor and the large upstairs gallery feature newly created work by artist members.  Enjoy the diverse creativity of talented local artists in an intimate and historical exhibition space.  On view are prints, drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, fiber, mixed media and ceramics by the over 100 members in Connecticut’s longest running artists’ guild.

Margaret Schuster is the solo artist in the spotlight gallery.  Her show entitled “Farm & Nature” includes landscapes, animals and nature scenes done in pastel or oil.  Schuster notes that “my career as a teacher and naturalist have taught me to look closely at everything and that is reflected in my work. I especially enjoy painting scenes from my farm.”

SOLO 2020 Winners
Juried by Andrew Witkin of Krakow Witkin Gallery, Boston,
this competition presents two debut exhibitions by New England artists

"Marc Schepens: East Point"

“Planetary Porcelain: Nerikomi Sculpture
by Cary Rapaport"

"Marc Schepens:
East Point"

The paintings for this exhibition came about from walking a dog in the presence of the ocean.

The pictorial structure of horizon, palette, and the reflections of light on water are in dialogue with people’s never satiated fascination with the seascape.

Marc Schepens lives in Nahant, Massachusetts, a town on the North Shore.

“Planetary Porcelain: Nerikomi Sculpture
by Cary Rapaport"

Initially inspired by a NASA photograph of the intricately marbled clouds in Jupiter’s atmosphere, I envisioned how planetary images could be conjured in clay, specifically through the ceramic technique of nerikomi. Compelled by a continuing fascination with the heavens, I pursued the expression of ethereal phenomena using a medium that is in itself unusual within the ceramic arts.

The Suffrage Movement was one of the most remarkable non-violent efforts to change social attitudes and institutions in the modern era. This exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which finally ensured an equal right to vote, by investigating the ways in which women's voices affect our contemporary landscape. CALL FOR ENTRIES

February has typically been the month for lovers at the Elusie Gallery.

But this year we find it difficult to celebrate love when intolerance and discrimination seem to be the new normal, and the basic right to love and be loved is being taken away from so many, whether it is the mass incarceration of children at the southern border or the wave of new anti-LGBTQ legislation being passed or considered in many parts of the country.

Because we should not accept this new normal, we invite you to submit artwork that still celebrates LOVE, but a more universal kind: the love of our neighbors, ALL our neighbors, the ones across the street, across the border or across gender identifications; art that celebrates the love for universal respect and basic human rights; art that showcases the love of our differences, these beautiful differences that still - and always will - define and unite this country.
We will accept up to 3 artworks for consideration, in any media and any size. We may reserve the right to show only one or two of them, depending on the number of submissions and available space. All submissions, objective, subjective, representative or abstract…will be considered, whether they represent love or the lack thereof...

To apply, reply to this email info@bigredframe.com and include:

Your name (last, first), zip code, phone number, email address
Title, media, size and price of the submitted artwork
Digital copies of your artwork.

Application deadline: January 31st. (tight deadline I know, but it's worth it!)
Dates of the exhibit: February 7th to February 29
Artists Reception: Friday February 7th, during ArtWalk Easthampton
(Yes, a Friday, more about this later!)

The Elusie Gallery will donate proceeds from the artwork sales to a non profit organization to be determined. Suggestions welcome!

ACD encourages artists from the community to share their experiences related to their craft with 5th grade students in the Bridgeport Public School district. DRAWN 2020
The 7th International Exhibition of Contemporary Drawing
Manifest was founded in-part to stand for the importance of drawing as a process, skill, and discipline, and as a continuing viable product of the creative fine art and design fields. Since its inception our organization has continued to incorporate drawing-based programming, including education (Drawing Center), publications (INDA), and gallery exhibits into the broader spectrum of its projects. The artists who formed Manifest in 2004 knew that despite their diverging career paths (architecture, art history, painting, industrial design, photography) they were brought together because of their connection to drawing and their mutually intense but multifaceted pursuit of this fundamental discipline. This exhibition continues that legacy.
In honor of the original spirit of the founding ideals of Manifest, the gallery launched DRAWN as an annual exhibition project in 2014. DRAWN seeks to survey and present the broad scope of drawing being made today.
DRAWN calls for artists to submit works of drawing in any media relevant to the practice, any style, and any genre (fine art, illustration, design, conceptual, realism, etc.). Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental. The only criteria for eligibility is that works must qualify as drawing, including that which tests the boundaries of the discipline.

Submission deadline: February 9, 2020
For complete details and to apply online visit:

FIBER 2020 seeks to present the best of contemporary fiber art. Submissions are invited that reflect the breadth of functional or non-functional works that use fiber and/or fiber art techniques in traditional or innovative ways. Works made from natural or high tech materials that reference fiber and that blur the lines between art, architecture and craft are welcome.
