CALL FOR ENTRIES
February has typically been the month for lovers at the Elusie Gallery.
But this year we find it difficult to celebrate love when intolerance and discrimination seem to be the new normal, and the basic right to love and be loved is being taken away from so many, whether it is the mass incarceration of children at the southern border or the wave of new anti-LGBTQ legislation being passed or considered in many parts of the country.
Because we should not accept this new normal, we invite you to submit artwork that still celebrates LOVE, but a more universal kind: the love of our neighbors, ALL our neighbors, the ones across the street, across the border or across gender identifications; art that celebrates the love for universal respect and basic human rights; art that showcases the love of our differences, these beautiful differences that still - and always will - define and unite this country.
We will accept up to 3 artworks for consideration, in any media and any size. We may reserve the right to show only one or two of them, depending on the number of submissions and available space. All submissions, objective, subjective, representative or abstract…will be considered, whether they represent love or the lack thereof...

Hygienic Art Galleries is hosting The Business of Art, a one-day symposium for emerging and established artists focused on the financial ins and outs of entrepreneurship and business development, on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 9 AM – 3:30 PM in the Crozier Williams Student Center at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. Registration is $20.00 per person and includes coffee, muffins and Danish as well as a luncheon. Please register on line please click link below before Jan. 16th. The judge for this year's show will be fine art photographer, Helene Smith-Romer. Romer works with collaged color photography using a repetition of human features to create bright, surrealist portraits and settings contrasted against a dark background. Women's Works 2020 will run from Thursday, March 5th to Saturday, April 11th. The gala Artists' Reception is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th.
Women's Works is open to all women artists, 18 years and older; artists do not need to be from Illinois to enter. All media are accepted, though work must have been created in the last two years and work previously accepted to Women's Works or Real People is not eligible. All work must be for sale, and a 30% commission will be taken by the Arts Center for sold work. Cash prizes of $1500 will be awarded to multiple winners (1st-3rd; 3 Artistic Merits and others). In addition, the winner of the Gallery Award will receive a one month solo show at the Arts Center (dates to be worked out with the artist; or a $250 cash prize). Up to 3 pieces may be submitted to the jury, up to 2 may be chosen. The cost to enter Women's Works is $40; if accepted, there are no further entry fees. A $10 discount is available to artists who entered Real People 2019 or who are Northwest Area Arts Council members. Bridgeport Public Schools will hold its fourth Annual “Arts Count” Day (ACD) on Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 10 to 11 AM to celebrate the arts with Bridgeport students.
ACD encourages artists from the community to share their experiences related to their craft with 5th grade students in the Bridgeport Public School district. Artists will create, perform, and/or engage for one hour with their assigned 5th grade classroom to call attention to the role the arts play in their everyday lives.
It will take 73 artists to cover each 5th grade classroom on that day, additional artists will be assigned to other grade levels within the district. The 7th International Exhibition of Contemporary Drawing
Manifest was founded in-part to stand for the importance of drawing as a process, skill, and discipline, and as a continuing viable product of the creative fine art and design fields. Since its inception our organization has continued to incorporate drawing-based programming, including education (Drawing Center), publications (INDA), and gallery exhibits into the broader spectrum of its projects. The artists who formed Manifest in 2004 knew that despite their diverging career paths (architecture, art history, painting, industrial design, photography) they were brought together because of their connection to drawing and their mutually intense but multifaceted pursuit of this fundamental discipline. This exhibition continues that legacy.
In honor of the original spirit of the founding ideals of Manifest, the gallery launched DRAWN as an annual exhibition project in 2014. DRAWN seeks to survey and present the broad scope of drawing being made today.
DRAWN calls for artists to submit works of drawing in any media relevant to the practice, any style, and any genre (fine art, illustration, design, conceptual, realism, etc.). Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental. The only criteria for eligibility is that works must qualify as drawing, including that which tests the boundaries of the discipline.

FIBER 2020 seeks to present the best of contemporary fiber art. Submissions are invited that reflect the breadth of functional or non-functional works that use fiber and/or fiber art techniques in traditional or innovative ways. Works made from natural or high tech materials that reference fiber and that blur the lines between art, architecture and craft are welcome.
