  Studios and Galleries 2012

Saturday May 5, 10:00am - 4:00pm

The Farmington Valley Arts Center in full bloom celebrating spring during the first weekend in May of 2012.  Studio Artists offer demonstrations, workshops in the classroom with music and hospitality.  FREE fun for the entire family!

The Arts Center will be stretched outside to the beautiful grounds surrounding the galleries and studios.  Activities include artists painting under the trees, demonstrations, and the opportunity to make your own artwork in one of our hands-on workshops (registration required).

Open Studios: 20 Studios Artists 
Tour the studios and galleries featuring new work, art demonstrations en plein air painting. Hands on activities in the courtyard including open drawing and painting for youth. Or create an intricate pen and ink drawing for Mother in our classroom with Cheryl Cianci. Registration required for activities.

Experience Zentangle® with First Saturday May Open Studios 
with Cheryl Cianci

An intuitive art form using pen & ink and the philosophy created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas of Zentangle, Inc., using meditation through doodling. Participants create beautiful abstract images on paper tiles from repetitive patterns of pen and pink with the guidance of a certified instructor. Work among artists, professionals and enthusiasts to find your own voice in your personal Zentangle® expression. All supplies included for all levels of interest. 
SATURDAY - May 5, 9-11:00a.m., 11:30a.m.-1:30p.m., or 2-4:00p.m. TUITION: $25 Material fee $5

Now on exhibit from May 1 through graduation on June 1 is a show by two artists,

Janice Nowinski and Kyle Staver

Nowinski and Staver take this opportunity to bring their Boys to the Girls of Miss Porter's.

Frolicsome or pensive, muscled or resting, they come in many sizes and attitudes ready to engage and confound. Nowinski's Boys are paint on canvas. Some originate from her personal observations while others from re-imagining Boys throughout the History of Art. Staver uses a variety of materials  and printing methods to explore her Boys.  Etchings, linocuts, and drypoint are the tools of her investigations. Together Staver and Nowinski constitute a Woman Art Maker's take on Boys as motif.
