Welcome October

Opening Reception | Saturday, October 5 6-8 PM
Artist Richard vonHoorn is featured in a solo show sponsored by Artwell at 42 Main Street, Torrington, formerly the CD Gallery near the Warner Theater.

Found objects, colored and textured papers, oil paint, shells and glue - lots of glue - feature prominently in vonHoorn's collage/constructions.

A West Virginia Wesleyan graduate with a degree in Fine Art, vonHoorn taught for 24 years in Torrington High School's art program
. During that time, the artist pursued many art ventures ranging from restoring church murals to decorating the side of a paddle wheel boat, to winning prizes for teeshirt designs, posters, ice sculpture, and logo designs.
Richard vonHoorn enjoys creating works in oil, collage and construction media. He lives on Lake Waramaug with his wife, artist Ann DeLorier vonHoorn and winters in Swansboro, North Carolina.

ArtBra New Haven will hold its annual auction of art bras and fine art pieces inspired by, and which speak to, the experience of breast cancer. The event will be an Afternoon Tea on Sunday, October 6, 2013, 2 p.m.–5 p.m., at the Omni Hotel in New Haven, Connecticut. All proceeds from the event will benefit under- & uninsured patients of the Breast Center at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.
Submissions may be either wearable or non-wearable artwork. Pieces can be based on ready-made bras, or be completely fabricated. Works can be an expression of your own experience, in support of someone, in honor of a survivor, or in memoriam. They can be serious or lighthearted. We are looking for works in any medium or mixture. We ask that each artist include a brief statement about their piece and its inspiration.
Thirty to forty pieces of wearable art will be auctioned in a live, modeled runway show. Other works will be set up and sold in the silent-auction gallery.
(If you pay by check, e-mail us for directions: artbranewhaven@yahoo.com)

Tickets for the October 6th auction are now on sale!

Tickets are $50 each. If you have eight or more, you can buy a table which will be reserved in your name.
