Our First “New York City Day of Art!”
Itinerary:
8:30 AM
Depart Middletown for New York City (Departure location or locations to
be announced per addresses of
participants)
11:30 AM Arrive to and visit the Hispanic Society of America Museum
With
more than 800 paintings and 6,000 watercolors and drawings, the
Hispanic Society of America Museum offers a comprehensive survey of
Spanish painting and drawing. The collection of almost 1,000 works of
art and sculpture contains outstanding pieces from the first millennium
B.C. until the 20th century and represent Spain, Portugal and
Latin American art. We think you’ll find the selection quite
captivating, particularly with Its strong examples of the works by EL Greco, Velasquez and Goya as well as Joaquin Sorolla’s “Vision
of Spain”. In addition you will marvel at the two sculptures of el Cid
and Don Quixote. This museum is a true cultural gem!
Break for lunch (on own) in a local restaurant of your choice.
2:30 PM Meet the motorcoach for our transfer to the Salmagundi Club.
3:00 PM Arrive for our visit to the Salmagundi Club
The managing director will welcome our group and give us a brief
explanation of the Club itself and an overview of the prestigious American Watercolor Society Exhibition 2014 which we are excited to view. Founded in 1871, the
Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the United
States. Housed in an historic brownstone mansion in Greenwich Village,
New York City, the Club offers programs including art classes,
exhibitions, painting demonstrations, and art auctions throughout the
year for members and the general public.
5:00 PM Motorcoach departs New York City for Middletown, Connecticut returning approximately 7:00 pm.
