The Sculpture of Bob Keating at Trailer Box Project
April 9, - May 13 2016

Bob Keating with a few words on his Sculpture.

It may be helpful to you hearing from me a few words about the sculpture. Steel, I use in a variety of helpful ways: it is strong and will often in judicial ways support some rather delicate perceptions. Stone can help too in need of mass and weight. The reason I use a variety of materials is because they form an amalgam that says just what I want to say. I’m not depicting something I’m saying something. It’s a distinction that is important to me.

I’m interested in everything and everybody to some extent. The art works are my artist’s statement; it’s how I talk with you. Often I write about each sculpture when it is presented rather than an over all statement that doesn’t pay attention to anything in particular. The way each work was made; the positioning, the twisting and treatment of the different parts
has inside it the human qualities I experience and that people recognize.

I am writing to invite you to join the Arts Center and Spectrum Gallery for our 1st Annual Summer Arts Festival(Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19).  We could not have picked a better location…not only is this Father's Day weekend but also Essex is a walking town with a big tourist influx and the Green where we will be located is right in the middle of the town's main street.  We are seeking both local and regional fine artists and artisans (limited to 50) to present and sell their work on this visible (and quite beautiful!) central location in this charming New England town.

To be part of the new Summer Festival, we ask that you submit 3 samples of your work to events@artscenterkillingworth.org.  If accepted, you may also submit work for the concurring 6-week long exhibit at our Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook.  That exhibit runs May 27-July 10 (with receiving May 15th through May 19th). I always know at least two to three weeks ahead of receiving what pieces will be coming in, so do not wait to submit first for the festival and then for the concurring gallery group show.

You can find the prospectuses for both events at artscenterkillingworth.org; (click on Call For Artists link on upper left of website homepage).  Just so you know the Arts Center Killingworth is the parent nonprofit company that runs Spectrum Art Gallery and Store, an expansion of the Arts Center. If you are interested in submitting, please, do so directly to me at the following email artscenterkillingworth@gmail.com.  In  the subject line state which festival you are submitting for. Submit three samples of your work with titles, dimensions and medium.  Pricing is not necessary at this point. After festival acceptance we will ask for your gallery group show submissions.
