in the cinema:
Yarn
Knit along and watch the artists who are redefining the tradition of knit and crochet, bringing yarn out of the house and into the world.

After the film, the avid knitters of Madison Wool will be here to demonstrate spinning traditional and funky art yarn from a antique walking wheel!

"There is never a grey moment on screen, ensuring that, whatever the audience's familiarity with yarn and its myriad uses, they will be entertained. Yet, this film's value must be measured in more than entertainment. It is a dazzling hymn to resilience and an intoxicating call to action." - Olivia J. Kiers, Art New England

"You have almost certainly never seen a better documentary about yarn than "Yarn."... thread and string should be jealous." - Neil Genzlinger, New York Times

"The film offers fascinating insight into what yarn can do in the talented hands of those determined to elevate mere craft to high art." - Amy Brady, Village Voice

Gallery Talk with Ben Ortiz Curator of
Body and Soul Exhibition at the HMA

Ben Ortiz, curator of the Housatonic Museum of Art’s newest exhibition, Body & Soul will engage directly with the works of art and discuss his passion for collecting art as well as share the stories behind each work.   The talk takes place at the museum, located at 900 Lafayette Blvd. in Bridgeport, on Thursday, October 20 at 5:00pm. All are welcome!
The Body & Soul exhibition is a collection of prints, paintings, photographs and sculpture with an emphasis on works
by Latin American art.  Local, regional and national artists are also represented in this compilation of 50 works of figurative art representing diverse art periods, art movements, media and techniques.  The collection was donated to the museum by Mr. Ortiz and Victor P. Torchia in honor of Mr. Ortiz’s brother, John Eloy Ortiz (1966-2008), who would have celebrated his 50th birthday this year.  The exhibition remains open through October 23, 2016.

This October 22–23, dancers and musicians will all perform live on The Bushnell stage in “Fire or Ice.”

Sonia Plumb Dance Company's latest production melds the earthiness of salsa, the energy of hip hop, the freedom of modern, and the classical moves of ballet. And, musical performances will also cross borders with pieces by J.S. Bach, Arvo Part, and Isaac Albéniz — live on the same stage — by classics Spanish guitarist Daniel Salazar, Jr., cellist Eric Dalhin and pianist Cory Gabel.

TICKETS: Be sure to ask about savings of $5 off ticket prices for seniors (65 years and older), $10 off for students (18 years or younger and college students with valid ID cards) and discounts for groups of 10 or more tickets at the link below or (860) 987-5900
