What do you see?
NEW HAVEN, April 25th – May 26th, 2019: Kehler Liddell Gallery presents:
2 0 2 0, this year’s juried show, featuring works by 47 artists. A panel discussion, “Dialogue in a Time of Discord,” will be held Sunday, April 28th @ 3pm, with reception to follow until 6pm.
2 0 2 0 – What do these numbers call to mind? Impeccable eyesight? Fully knowledgeable hindsight? A prophetic projection of foresight? Or perhaps a particular year in the near future that looms large in the mind's eye? Artists enable us to frame history with clarity and perception, to dream and conceptualize, to visualize futures, preparing us for what may come, or helping us manifest worlds we look to create. This year’s juried exhibition features forty-seven artists – living both locally and nationally, and working in a wide variety of media – who offer their own unique perspective for our consideration.

Begging Bowls and Offering Bowls works by Ann Grassoon view through May 5, 2019The exhibition was inspired by a trip to Vienna. While walking through the city and studying its architecture, Grasso noticed that gold was used abundantly on buildings and in artwork. Juxtaposed with these cultural symbols of wealth were street beggars (dressed as monks), who quietly and anonymously asked for money. Reflecting on that day, Grasso was struck by the contrasts and similarities of both the beggars and those who gave to them. Grasso’s second inspiration for the work came as she had the privilege of slowing down to care for a parent. This experience gave her the time to offer help and also research patterns of living.
